Halloween/ Samhain

big Thank You to Kryten for carving this masterpiece

The Owl by Alfred, Lord Tennyson

When cats run home and light is come,
And dew is cold upon the ground,
And the far-off stream is dumb,
And the whirring sail goes round,
And the whirring sail goes round,
Alone and warming his five wits,
The white owl in the belfry sits.

When merry milkmaids click the latch,
And rarely smells the new-mown hay,
And the cock hath sung beneath the thatch
Twice or thrice his roundelay,
Twice or thrice his roundelay;
Alone and warming his five wits,
The white owl in the belfry sits.

Halloween or Samhain is The Holiday I am a fan of. It embraces the reality of living in this world, both the beautifully magical and the grotesquely horrible. Moshie has been talking about death lately. I’m keeping it real by telling her everything that lives also dies. She told a friend she was going to die yesterday, and we tell her not anytime soon. She likely has lots of time for growing.  Thinking about not really knowing what the future will bring reminds me to enjoy right now.

I actually bought some Halloween accessories. There’s a skeleton by my rear window brake light. This is almost unheard of here. Since I am embracing my witchy/wild side I’d really like to get Moshie and I a black kitten but Kryten is resisting. I think I might be wearing him down. He stopped saying ‘no’ and replaced it with a grunt.
