If you haven’t read Why I Want a Wife, please do so. If you liked this essay then please go to the npr’s the story and listen to an interview with the Author Judy Brady.
Judy believes that we have taken steps backward in the womens movement due to division in its ranks. This is the kind of thing you always wanted to learn in a womens/ american history class.
It made me realize something about my mom also. By the time Judy wrote this essay many women were already on their path to realization of a life as a wife and mother in the traditional sense. Being close to academia gave Judy the chance to be around revolutionary thinkers. The highlight for me was when she asked her husbands (male) colleague to give her the name of a woman she was interested in talking to about the movement—he told her she couldn’t have the name.
